Summary

Alaska, 1974。
Nieobliczalna。 Bezlitosna。 Dzika。

W tym niezapomnianym portrecie ludzkiej słabości i odporności Kristin Hannah ujawnia niezłomny charakter współczesnego amerykańskiego pioniera i ducha ginącej Alaski - miejsca o niezrównanym pięknie i niebezpieczeństwie。 Wielka samotność to odważna, piękna, pełna życia opowieść o miłości, stracie i walce o przetrwanie…

Great book。 Learning about Alaska especially was fascinating and compelling。The story was also compelling。 This is the first book ever where I read a sentence and exclaimed “no” and quickly shut the book。 Definitely a first for me!

"everyone has a story。 maybe yours just starts up here"I haven't been reading a lot lately, mostly just rereading old favorites, but after I got hooked on this book I couldn't put it down。 the first third or so was pretty slow for me, but with (well written and well incorporated) plot twists as the story progressed, I started really getting into it。 definitely not a light or quick read, but I would definitely recommend it if you want to get lost in the life of the characters。 "everyone has a story。 maybe yours just starts up here"I haven't been reading a lot lately, mostly just rereading old favorites, but after I got hooked on this book I couldn't put it down。 the first third or so was pretty slow for me, but with (well written and well incorporated) plot twists as the story progressed, I started really getting into it。 definitely not a light or quick read, but I would definitely recommend it if you want to get lost in the life of the characters。 。。。more

Reading The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah confirmed why I enjoy her books so much。 She weaves a historically accurate story, while also sharing personal stories that hold my interest and have me binge-reading them。 The Great Alone is about the family of a Vietnam Vet with PTSD who move to Alaska to "live off the grid"。 It is told from the perspective of the teenage daughter, but we learn the stories of many of the characters。 However, I am left wanting more stories of the supporting characters l Reading The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah confirmed why I enjoy her books so much。 She weaves a historically accurate story, while also sharing personal stories that hold my interest and have me binge-reading them。 The Great Alone is about the family of a Vietnam Vet with PTSD who move to Alaska to "live off the grid"。 It is told from the perspective of the teenage daughter, but we learn the stories of many of the characters。 However, I am left wanting more stories of the supporting characters like Large Marge and Tom Walker。 。。。more

Absolutely loved this book。

The author put her characters through the wringer over and over and over。 Each scene was another set up for some emotional or physical disaster and I got pretty good at predicting what it would be。 Some outcomes (especially in the end) were totally unbelievable。 I don't recommend this to anyone。 Hannah is a competent writer - maybe try another one of her books if interested in this author。 The audiobook reader was good though。 The author put her characters through the wringer over and over and over。 Each scene was another set up for some emotional or physical disaster and I got pretty good at predicting what it would be。 Some outcomes (especially in the end) were totally unbelievable。 I don't recommend this to anyone。 Hannah is a competent writer - maybe try another one of her books if interested in this author。 The audiobook reader was good though。 。。。more

4。5 stars because I’m not a huge historical fiction fan and the hype was so real with this one! It definitely put me in my feels but I think I expected just a little more from *THE* Kristin Hannah, but still excited to read her other books! I was surprised at how quickly I finished this one, it was an enjoyable read for sure。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This was an emotional rollercoaster of a story! I really loved the book, it makes me want to go to Alaska and see it’s beauty。 I couldn’t give this book 5 stars though, near the end I got so mad at the story and how it was ending。 Although it ended up coming around, I felt like the ending dragged on too long。

A lot of people love KH, but I've previously found her novels pretty dull and soppy。 This one though, much better! A teenage girl in a small and isolated Alaskan town, with an abusive father。 He made me so angry! I guess that means I engaged with the book。 A lot of people love KH, but I've previously found her novels pretty dull and soppy。 This one though, much better! Wow, what an incredible story! This book makes the very short list of novels that have made me cry。 Poignantly written, diving deep into the lives of the characters and their experience, this book was so hard to put down。 Highly recommend!

Such a great book, growing up my family always watched the Alaskan shows talking about how people trulyMake a living out in the deep Alaskan wilderness and this book made me feel immersed in the world。 First KH read and I loved her writing style, the blend of world building and plot set up while also giving the character a lot of personality。 The pace was something that surprised me at first and how fast time moved but it made a lot of sense。 The great alone made me feel like I was in the Main c Such a great book, growing up my family always watched the Alaskan shows talking about how people trulyMake a living out in the deep Alaskan wilderness and this book made me feel immersed in the world。 First KH read and I loved her writing style, the blend of world building and plot set up while also giving the character a lot of personality。 The pace was something that surprised me at first and how fast time moved but it made a lot of sense。 The great alone made me feel like I was in the Main characters shoes and that I was right there going through it beside her。Listened on audio adored the narrator!! 。。。more

One thing that drove me crazy in this book was the use of "baby girl" when Cora speaks to Lenny。 Then Lenny calls her son "baby boy"。 I noticed it in Four Winds as well。 That ruined both books for me。 One thing that drove me crazy in this book was the use of "baby girl" when Cora speaks to Lenny。 Then Lenny calls her son "baby boy"。 I noticed it in Four Winds as well。 That ruined both books for me。 。。。more

This has been one of the best books I have read in a while。 The way the author describes the atmosphere and setting of the book is magical and engulfing。 I had to take breaks at certain points because some of the stressful moments were too real。 The story is beautiful and has a great ending。 I thoroughly enjoyed the journey and am looking for another Kristin Hannah book to enjoy。
